In 2005, Ferrari introduced both the F430 and F430 Spider to the US Market. The F430 Spider was the successor to the Ferrari 360 Spider. The two most notable changes for the 430 over the 360 are the larger and more powerful engine and the new advanced traction/stability control management system . All 430's also came equipped with a Manettino dial on the steering wheel. The F430 was the first mainstream Ferrari to offer a Manettino dial. The dial allows the driver to quickly and simply adjust the electronics governing suspension settings, traction control, electronic differential and change the speed of the electronic gearbox. There are 5 settings on the Manettino - Ice, Low Grip, Sport, Race, and CST(which turns off all traction and electronic stability control). This technology made the F430 more stable, easier and safer to drive without sacrificing handling or the excellent feedback the chassis gives the driver. The F430 came standard with a 4.3 Liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that produced 483 horsepower. Redline is at 8,500 rpm. 0-60 mph takes as little as 3.9 seconds. The top speed on the Spider is 193 mph. Carbon Ceramic Brakes (CCB) were an option on both the Coupe and Spider through 2007. In 2008 CCB brakes came standard on all Ferrari models. A six-speed manual came standard and the F1 Paddle Shift semi-automatic transmission was an option. The F1 Transmission shift times on the F430 were considerably quicker than the previous generation 360 equipped 360. In fact, shift times for the F430 are on par with the Ferrari Enzo. The F430 Spider driving experience is very similar to the coupe thanks to a rigid platform. The F430 Spider is still very quick even by today's standards. The addition of the Manettino really transformed the car into a much more usable supercar. When you drive a F430 Spider the driver is instantly able to experience just what it is that makes Ferrari so special.
